TranSystems Corp, a national transportation consulting firm that provides engineering, architectural planning, and construction solutions, partnered with SurvWest to provide an engineering design survey for bridges along the BNSF line in Chicago. SurvWest worked with TranSystems to provide high precision aerial control and track alignment mapping of 13 bridges and connected rail lines using low level drone-based photogrammetry collection with a 124mp camera. Orthorectified imagery with millimeter/per pixel accuracy was used to perfectly map the bridge bolts on each bridge section to allow for the steel girders to be replaced–thus, saving considerable schedule and budget on this project and allowing for future similar work other bridges.
